Seahawks Dominate St. Francis (NY) In 3-0 Win

Staten Island, NY - Wagner defeated the St. Francis (NY) Terriers for the eighth-straight time while snapping their 15-match losing streak in a 3-0 victory at the Spiro Sports Center. The Green & White hit a .273 and won scores of 30-27, 30-19 and 30-22.

With the win, the Seahawks keep their faint Northeast Conference (NEC) playoff hopes alive while improving to 3-16 and 1-5 in the NEC. The Terriers fall to 1-26 and 0-4 in the NEC.

The Green & White never trailed in the match and were led by sophomore Alex Klein's (Cresent Springs, KY / Notre Dame Academy) career-high 20 kills, on .333 hitting, to go along with seven digs. Her 20 kills also represent the most by a Seahawk this year. Freshman Ashley Pepper (Washington Court House, OH / Washington Senior) almost matched Klein, chipping in with a personal-best 18 kills, on .308 hitting. Sophomore Gabi Hilk (Wilmington, DE / Alexis I. DuPont) led the setting-unit with 40 assists while freshman Jennifer Lechman (Effingham, IL / Effingham) had 13 digs and four aces to round out the top-performers for the Seahawks.

In the first game, the Seahawks jumped out to the early 12-7 lead and were up 20-15 when the Terriers used a 6-1 run to tie the match at 21-21. Following a timeout, Wagner ripped off a 5-1 run, highlighted by four Klein kills, to go in front 27-22 before winning 30-27.

Wagner used .349 hitting and eight Pepper kills to dominate the second game, winning easily 30-19.

The Seahawks scored the first eight points of the third game and again won easily 30-22. Wagner hit .344 and was led by Klein, who hit .538 with nine kills in the decisive third game.

Erin O'Shaughnessy led St. Francis (NY), which hit just .062, with six kills, on .222 hitting.

Wagner concludes the home portion of their schedule with a match against NJIT on Friday, Nov. 2 at 8:00 pm.
