Wagner Succumbs To La Salle 3-0

Sophomore Alex Klein recorded match-highs in kills (8) and digs (13)

Oct. 23, 2007

Box Score

Staten Island, NY - Wagner lost in non-conference volleyball action by a 3-0 score to La Salle at the Spiro Sports Center. The Seahawks fell by scores of 30-25, 30-23 and 30-25 and were out-hit .167-.022.

With the win the Explorers snap their eight-match losing skid while improving to 10-19. Conversely, the Seahawks' losing streak was extended to 14 as the Green & White move to 2-15.

With Wagner trailing 22-18 in the first game, La Salle used a 7-3 run to go up 29-21. Wagner would answer with four straight points, highlighted by two of freshman Ashley Pepper's (Washington Court House, OH / Washington Senior) three game one aces, to cut the deficit to four before La Salle won 30-25 on a service error.

In game two, with the score tied at 11-11 in game two, the Explorers ripped off five straight points to go up 16-11 on their way to a 30-23 victory.

La Salle completed the three game sweep with a 30-25 win in a game that was much closer then the score indicated. Down 22-18 and following a timeout, the Seahawks ripped off a 5-1 run to tie the game for the first time at 23-23. The comeback would be for naught as a service error sparked a 7-2 game-ending run for the Explorers.

Sophomore Alex Klein (Cresent Springs, KY / Notre Dame Academy) led Wagner with match-highs in kills (8) and digs (13). Classmate Sam O'Brien (San Francisco, CA / Sacred Heart Cathedral) had a season-best seven kills, on .250 hitting, while Sarah Garrette (Jr., Barrington, IL / Barrington) hit a robust .462 with six kills to round out the top-performers for the Seahawks.

Amy McKeon's seven kills, on .500 hitting, and Jackie Kushman's seven kills paced the Explorers.

Wagner is right back at it tomorrow with a 7 pm match at Lafayette.
