With the last of the Northeast Conference (NEC) swim meets falling in the month of January, it seems to be a very hard yet exciting time for any swimmer in the midst of competition. But one specific athlete excelled even further, both in the class room and in the pool. With two event wins (200 and 500 freestyle) against conference rival CCSU, junior Alexandra Tomlinson has been a key element of the Wagner swimming team's success. Q: "What do you prefer to swim: long distance (1650/1000/500) or sprints (200)?" A: "The longer the better! I am not a very good sprinter." Q: "How do you keep up with both your school work and competing for two varsity sports?" A: "It takes a lot of time management. I try to study and do my school work any free chance I get. It is important for me to get a lot of rest as well to be able to handle it all." Q: "What was your favorite meet this year?" A: "My favorite meet this year was our home senior meet against CCSU. We came so close to beating our conference rival. Everyone swam with a lot of heart especially the seniors. I was so proud of the whole team." Q: "Least favorite meet?" A: "The Boston University Invitational. It was a midseason meet and we were all broken down. Trying to finish a three day invitational tired is really hard." Q: "Do you have any pre-race rituals you go through before getting in the pool? A: "I try and get pumped by listening to music on my iPod and stretching." |
