Staten Island, NY - Wagner Soccer Head Coach Mike Minielli announced today that the program has officially signed three players that will enroll at the school this upcoming fall and join the roster for the 2008 campaign. Wednesday marked the first day of the official signing period where, under NCAA regulations, college programs can accept signed letters of intent from prospective student-athletes. "Our overall goal in recruiting this year was to find height and more of a physical presence on the field," said Minielli. "We were also looking for more offense, as we only scored 11 goals all of last year, so from those two standpoints I think this was as close to an ideal recruiting class in terms of our needs as we could get. "In those areas that we needed - whether it's physicality, creativity with the ball, scoring, or ball-winning - these three players will fit in perfectly." The first installment of Wagner Soccer's Class of 2012 hails from the Midwest as well as the Northeast. Kaitlyn Llewellyn (Island Lake, IL/Wauconda) is a 5'8" forward/midfielder who played for the KUFC Tempest in club. She is slotted to play that dual role, also, for the Seahawks this upcoming season. "Kaitlyn will have a huge impact on our attack next year," said Minielli. "She is excellent at breaking down defenses on the dribble as well as with the pass. She is a perfect complement to the players we currently have on the attacking side of the ball." Bridget Moriarty (St. Charles, MO/Francis Howell) is a 5'11" midfielder who played her club ball with JB Marine. She will also play midfield here at Wagner. "The height of our team the past two seasons has been average to below average. Bridget will have a big impact on our midfield with her physical presence," said Minielli. "She is a great ball-winner and is very good with possession in the midfield. She also serves the long ball well." Terryn Marette (Chevy Chase, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) is a 5'6" defender who played for the Freestate Shooters in club, the number one-ranked team in the entire country who won the nationals last season. She is projected to be a defender for Wagner. "She can play any spot on the backline," said Minielli. "She has racked up numerous assists for her club and high school teams with her ability on free and corner kicks. "Terryn has a great mentality and physicality for the game and will have an immediate impact on our backline as well as our ability to score goals." |
