Sophomore midfielder Krista Malayter tallied two goals for the Seahawks vs. Robert Morris

March 22, 2008

Final Stats

Staten Island, NY - The Wagner College women's lacrosse team scored the first two goals of the game but Robert Morris responded with eight consecutive scores of its own and went on to record an 18-8 Northeast Conference (NEC) victory over the Seahawks.

With the loss, Wagner fell to 1-6 on the season, 1-1 in the NEC while the Colonials improved to 2-6 and are now also 1-1 in league play.

Picking up where they left of in Thursday's impressive 22-0 romp over Saint Francis (PA), the Seahawks went up 1-0 just 1:39 into the game when sophomore attacker Janine Bright (Commack, NY/ Commack) received a pretty feed from junior midfielder Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, MA/ Plymouth Whitemarsh) and fired home the shot. Just 1:15 seconds later, junior midfielder Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill) scored the first of her team-high three goals by registering an unassisted goal that gave the Seahawks a 2-0 lead with 27:06 remaining in the first half.

Alana Beck triggered Robert Morris' eight-goal splurge scoring off an Ashley Levering assist just 22 seconds later and the Colonials would go on to score another seven straight goals over the next 9:45 before sophomore midfielder Krista Malayter (Cheshire, CT/ Cheshire) stopped the bleeding with a 14:01 left in the first half off an assist from Blundin to cut the deficit to 8-3. Robert Morris answered with three straight goals to make it 11-3 before Gonzalez found the net off an assist by freshman attacker Dana Marchitelli (Annapolis, MD/ South River) to slice the deficit to 11-4 at halftime.

The Colonials opened the second half with five straight goals to build an insurmountable 16-4 lead. Robert Morris out-shot Wagner 47-24 and held a 19-9 edge in ground balls, while winning 16-28 draw controls.

Wagner is next in action on Wed., March 26 when the Seahawks host Fairfield in a 3:30 pm match-up.
