Final Stats

Staten Island, NY - Despite three goals apiece from junior midfielders Jessica Richmond (Jenkintown, PA/ Jenkintown) and Kelly Blundin (Plymouth Meeting, PA/ Plymouth Whitemarsh), the Wagner College women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener to Manhattan 13-9.

With the loss, the Seahawks fall to 0-2 on the season while the Jaspers improve to 2-1.

Manhattan built an early 4-1 lead before the Seahawks tallied a pair of unanswered goals by Richmond and Blundin to cut the deficit to 4-3 late in the first half. Helen Kerrisk put the Jaspers back up by two goals at 5-3 with a goal at the 1:26 mark of the opening half as Manhattan took this two-goal lead into halftime.

With Manhattan leading by an 8-4 count in the third quarter, again the Seahawks reeled off consecutive goals, by sophomore midfielder Terri Noll (Jordan, NY/ Jordan-Elbridge Central) on a free position shot and sophomore attack Janine Bright (Commack, NY/ Commack) off an assist by junior midfielder Cara Gonzalez (Syracuse, NY/ Westhill).

This two-goal splurge drew Wagner to within 8-6 but that is as close as the Seahawks would get as Manhattan responded with three straight goals to seize a commanding 11-6 lead.

Sophomore Alex Johnston (Manilus, NY/ Fayetteville-Manilus) registered five saves in goal for Wagner in the first half before giving way to junior Amy Jones (Jarrestville, MD/ North Harford), who registered 11 saves in the second half.

Alicia Psillos had five goals for Manhattan while Tara Convery added three. Allison Brown had 12 saves in goal for the Jaspers, who out-shot Wagner by a narrow 32-29 margin. The Seahawks held a 34-30 edge in ground balls.

Wagner is next in action on Thu., March 6 when the Seahawks travel to Columbia for a 3:00 pm faceoff.
