Staten Island, NY - In their final home matches of the season the Wagner Wrestling team dropped two head-to-heads this afternoon at the Spiro Sports Center, first to Gardner-Webb University 38-0 and then in dramatic fashion 19-18 to American International College. Nothing much went the Seahawks' way in the first match as they failed to get a victory in any weight class, however, in their battle against AIC it was a completely different story. A pin by freshman 165-pounder Larry Peotter (New Providence, NJ/New Providence) gave the Green & White a huge spark that followed right up to the 184 and 197-pound matches. At 184, it was another Seahawk freshman, this time Ed Broderick (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Regional) who nailed down a tightly contested 3-1 decision to cut the Yellow Jackets' lead to just 17-15 with two bouts to go. Then, senior 197-pounder Anthony Interiano (Sounch Beach, NY/Miller Place) earned a decisive 11-4 decision that put the Seahawks in the driver's seat, 18-16, with the match hanging on the 285-pound and final bout. There, however, it wasn't to be as senior John Graeffe (Emmaus, PA/Scranton Prep) couldn't close the deal on AIC's Dan Dolle-Molle and the Yellow Jackets got away with the match by one team point, 19-18.
