Wagner Upsets St. Francis NY Before Losing To Top-Seeded Fairleigh Dickinson

West Windsor, NJ - No. 9 Wagner upset No. 8 St. Francis (NY) 4-2 before losing to No. 1 Fairleigh Dickinson 4-0 in day one of the Northeast Conference (NEC) Tennis Championships at the Mercer County Tennis Center.

The Green & White are now 2-15 and will conclude their season tomorrow against No. 4 Sacred Heart in the consolation round.

Wagner's claimed three of the five singles matches against SFNY while avenging last weekend's loss to the Terriers. Sophomore John LeBlanc (Staten Island, NY / Tottenville) shut out Vihren Todorov 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Classmate Byron Clohessy defeated Bratislav Radosavlevic 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4 singles. At the five-spot, senior Will Shuler (Springfield, MA / Central Springfield) clinched the win with a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Tyrone Fordham.

Wagner had previously claimed the doubles point by taking two-of-three of the doubles matches. Senior Adam Amster (Concord, MA / Concord-Carlisle) and LeBlanc won at No. 1 doubles 8-4. Clohessy and junior Sheldon Wilson also won at No 3 doubles 8-5.

FDU dominated Wagner by a 4-0 count in the Seahawks' second match of the day.

The Knights won all three doubles' matched to claim the match's first point.

Matt Gordon defeated LeBlanc 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Sophomore Ben Serbiak (Washington Crossing, PA / Holy Ghost Prep) also lost 6-0, 6-0 to John Girling at No. 3. At fifth singles, Shuler was felled 6-0, 6-0.

Amster, Clohessy and Wilson were all losing when the match was halted.
