Staten Island, NY - Wagner College defensive end Robert Brown (Rome Free Academy/ Rome, NY), who finished fourth in the nation this past season with 11 pass sacks, has been named Associated Press Third-Team All-American. The 6-1, 230-pound Brown was a ferocious pass rusher for the Seahawks and played a key role for a unit that finished first in the NEC in total defense (319.1 yards/game), first in scoring defense (16.1 points/game) and second in rushing defense (133.7 yards/game). Nationally, the Wagner defense was seventh in the nation in scoring defense (16.1 points/game) and 20th in total defense (319.1 yards/game). Brown's 11 sacks, in addition to being the fourth-highest total in the nation, were also tops in the NEC. Those 11 sacks came on the strength of 10 solo sacks and two half-sacks which netted minus 80 yards in losses. Brown also led the Seahawks in tackles for loss (16 for minus 85 yards), 46 total tackles, including 24 solo, had seven quarterback hurries, one pass breakup and one fumble. On Oct. 6 at Robert Morris, Brown was at the forefront of a particularly dominating Wagner defensive effort that limited the Colonials to 23 yards of total offense in the second half in claiming a 20-13 road victory. That afternoon, Brown constantly disrupted the Colonials' pass attack, which completed only six-of-20 attempts. The junior lineman recorded a career-high four sacks and assisted on a fifth tackle for-loss in the winning effort as Robert Morris managed only 192 yards of total offense. |
