Del Smith is entering his third season as the Seahawks linebackers coach and has a veteran group of inside linebackers leading his way. In addition to coaching the linebackers, Coach Smith will be in his first season as the special teams coordinator. Prior to joining the Seahawk staff, Smith spent one season serving in the same capacity at his alma mater West Virginia Wesleyan.

Last year, Coach Smith tutored the linebackers in a defense that finished 6th in the nation in scoring defense giving up just 16.1 points per game. Senior linebacker Bryan Brand garnished first team All-Northeast Conference honors totaling 117 tackles, 11.5 tfl's, and 6 sacks. In 2006, Brand was awarded academic All-American honors by ESPN the Magazine.

Coach Smith is responsible for the Virginia, Maryland, and Washington D.C. recruiting areas. He is also responsible for Wagner's continued success in recruiting at Fork Union and Hargrave Military Academies.

In addition to his coaching and recruiting responsibilities, Coach Smith is in charge of the Seahawk football programs travel and equipment efforts.

Coach Smith played for West Virginia Wesleyan College, a division II member of the WVIAC. During his career at Wesleyan he earned three varsity letters and was a member of back-to-back conference championship teams who won 17 straight conference games. Coach Smith graduated from Wesleyan with a B.S. in Marketing.

A product of Richmond, VA Coach Smith attended Benedictine High School and was a member of the 2001 State Championship football and baseball teams. Benedictine is the only Catholic, military day school in the country.

Coach Smith is engaged to Ashley Leinbach of Bridgeport, WV and resides in Staten Island.
