Huebner Named Akadema NEC Pitcher Of The Week

Junior Andrew Huebner saved three of Wagner's four wins against Quinnipiac

May 5, 2008

Somerset, NJ - Andrew Huebner (Hatfield, PA / North Penn) was named the Akadema Northeast Conference (NEC) Pitcher of the Week following his dominating performance last week.

Huebner was nearly untouchable during Wagner's four-game sweep of NEC rival Quinnipiac. The righty reliever appeared in all four wins, three of which he saved. Allowing only one hit and granting no free passes, the junior right-hander pitched a total of 4.1 innings of shutout ball. Adding three strikeouts this weekend, Huebner has now struck out 11 NEC batters, against no walks, during a 9.1 innings sample while saving six of Wagner's 13 conference-wins. Successfully converting 9-of-10 save opportunities this season, the hard-throwing Seahawk sits atop Wagner's all-time single-season save list while striking out 21 with a 2.28 ERA over 23.2 innings of work.

Huebner is the third Seahawk to win NEC Pitcher of the Week accolades, joining lefties senior Joe Testa (Brick, NJ / Brick) and freshman Jack Rice (Middlesex, NJ / Immaculata), who each claimed the weekly NEC award back in March.

Wagner has now won six NEC weekly awards on the year. Sophomore Kevin McDonnell (Bristol, CT / Avon Old Farms) earned a Player of the Week nod while Brian Martutartus (Carlsbad, CA / La Costa Canyon) and Rice were each named Rookie of the Week.

Third-place Wagner (22-22; 13-7 NEC) is next in action this weekend (5/9-5/11) when the Seahawks play four games at second-place CCSU (20-19; 14-6 NEC).
