Somerset, NJ - The Northeast Conference (NEC) announced Wagner senior Mouhamed Halwani (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) and junior Brecken Drager (Loomis, CA/Del Oro) the NEC Cross Country Athletes of the Week while freshman Derek Rammelkamp (Miller Place, NY/Miller Place) was named Cross Country Rookie of the Week. Halwani finished seventh at the Central Connecticut State University Mini-Meet with a 15:33 time on the 5K course while Rammelkamp finished in 13th place with a time of 16:04.. Out of all of the NEC runners in the CCSU Mini-Meet, Halwani and Rammelkamp were the first and second to cross the tape, respectively. This is the second week in a row Halwani and Rammelkamp took both Athlete and Rookie of the week honors while these awards are each runner's third nods from the NEC this year. Not to be outdone, Drager brings in her first Cross Country Athlete of the Week award this year with a fourth place performance in the CCSU Mini-Meet, bringing in a time of 11:37 in the two mile course. She was the first of all NEC runners to finish. "This team is doing something I've never seen before at Wagner," commented head coach Joe Stasi. "They are pouring their hearts out onto the course, and its showing." Next up on the Seahawk's plate is the Northeast Conference Championships in New Britain, CT. Wagner was ranked seventh in the NEC pre-season poll at the beginning of the year and will look to make a significant impact at this weekend's championships. |
