Richmond, VA - Junior Alaina Alfano (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) and the men's 4x100 team set new school records at the VCU Ram Invitational hosted by Virginia Commonwealth University. Alfano's record breaking performance came in the long jump where she topped the school's best leap by .01 with her 5.97 bound. Her jump, along with her first place finish in the 100m hurdles (15.44) and fourth place finish in the 100m dash (13.12) helped the lady Seahawks to a third place finish at the meet. The 4x100 team, consisting of Coleman Edmond (Kingston, NY/Harmony Prep (MI), Matt Reidy (West Long Branch, NJ/Shore Regional), Derek Schultz (Ocean Port, NJ/Shore Regional), and Matthew Villane (Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Regional) broke the previous Wagner record of 41.99 that was held since 1999 with a 41.40 team effort that brought them second place at the meet. The men finished fourth. Other top finishes for the women include Gwendolyn Moore's (Teaneck, NJ/Teaneck) first place finish in the javelin, tossing 38.44m, Jenna Naglieri's (Stony Point, NY/North Rockland) first place 7:48.05 finish in the 2000m steeple chase, senior Samantha Snukis' (St. Clair, PA/Nativity BVM) second place finish in the 800m at 2:20.86 and the 4x400m relay team crossing the finish line in 4:05.16, good for a second place finish. The men were aided by the performances of sophomore Kevin Kearney (Haddonfield, NJ/St. Joe's Prep) who took second place in the 800m with a time of 1:59.02 followed by fellow teammate James Johnston (Middle Island, NY/Longwood) who finished third in the same event at 1:59.92. Sophomore Claudio Perfetto (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) also brought home a second place finish in the high jump with a 1.80m leap. Next up for the Seahawks is the competition waiting for them at the Costal Carolina Shamrock Invitational from March 20-22. |
