In August of 2004, Hefferan was named to the NCAA Division I Management Council where she will help the 49-member council adopt operating bylaws and rules to govern the Div. I level. The Council also serves to interpret Div. I bylaws and develop and administer budgets.

The New Jersey native comes to Wagner after spending the last 18 years at Seton Hall University in various capacities, including the past six years as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance. In her role as Compliance coordinator, she monitored all aspects of compliance, including recruiting, eligibility and financial aid for the Pirates' 17 varsity sports. Hefferan also served as the primary SHU Athletics liaison to the Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, and Residence Life departments, while also managing the NCAA Student-Athlete Assistance Fund, the Student Athlete Opportunity Fund and the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC).

Hefferan is a 1985 graduate of Penn State University, where she was an essential part of the Nittany Lions softball program. She then earned her MBA from Seton Hall in 1988.
