Al Phillips Named to 2007 ECAC All-Star Team

Cape Cod, MA - Wagner Cornerback/Return Specialist Al Phillips (Hialeah, FL/ American) was named to the ECAC 2007 Football Championship Subdivision All-Star Team, following a senior season where he was fifth in the nation in interceptions (seven) and ranked 11th in the nation in kickoff return yardage (27.69).

Phillips, who was named to the ECAC All-Star team as both a defensive back and as a kick returner, played an integral role in the Seahawks fashioning a 7-4 record in 2007, including a 3-3 mark in the competitive Northeast Conference.

A first-team All-Northeast Conference choice as both a CB and a return specialist, Phillips capped his outstanding collegiate career by snaring an interception in helping to lead the North to a 35-7 win over the South in the East Coast Bowl, an all-star game that features the top 75 Division I-FCS, II, III and NAIA athletes.

His seven INTs are tied for fourth on the Wagner single-season list and his 17 career picks place him third all-time. The 5-11, 195-pound Phillips finished the season fourth in the nation in passes defended at 1.64/game. He was also fifth in the nation in interceptions at 0.64/game.

Phillips returned 16 kicks for 443 yard on the season, none more important than the one he brought back to the house on Oct. 8 at Robert Morris which changed the entire momentum of the game in a matter of seconds. With his 2007 team trailing 10-0 and in vital need of a spark, Phillips returned a second-quarter kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. The preseason all-NEC cornerback became the first Seahawk to accomplish such a feat since Jason Butler scored on a kickoff return against Stony Brook on Nov. 11, 2006. For his efforts against Robert Morris, where he also made five solo tackles, Phillips was named NEC Special Teams Player of the Week.

The ECAC will honor the players and rookies of the year in each division and region on February 19, 2008 at the annual Eastern College Football Awards Banquet presented by FieldTurf Tarkett, an event held in the Pegasus Restaurant at the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, N.J.

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) is the nation's largest athletic conference and only multi-divisional conferences, with 322 member institutions and over 122,000 student-athletes ranging across 16 states from Maine to North Carolina and westerly to Illinois. Established in 1938 with 58 charter members, the ECAC has since emerged as the nationwide leader in service. The ECAC honors more than 3,000 student-athletes during the academic year through its all-star and player of the week programs. Each week, the conference has recognized 12 football athletes, including offensive and defensive, in the Football Championship Subdivision (IAA), Division II, and Division III (Northeast, Northwest, Southeast, and Southwest Regions).

LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Again, I'd like to thank Walt Hameline, Bruce Dunn and the officers and members of the Touchdown Club for giving me this great honor to serve as President. Through your generous support last year we were able to sustain our usual club activities. Being a Wagner alum, I have seen just how important the Touchdown Club is to the success of our Wagner Seahawks.

Last year our Seahawks had their ups and down as they battled through a grueling 11 game schedule. In the end, it was yet another winning season for Coach Hameline and the Seahawks finishing with a record of 6 wins and 5 losses. Once again, the Touchdown Club was there for every exciting moment because that's what we do! The Touchdown Club is the official support group of Seahawk Football, consisting of alumni, parents, friends and former players who rally each year to join in the celebration and tradition that honors our outstanding football program.

Some of our key activities this year will include:
• Report Day support - August 10
• Green & White scrimmage - August 23
• TD Club information table at each home game
• Suite accommodations available for away games yet to be determined
• Homecoming - September 15
• 50/50 Raffle at all home games
• Post-game reception at all home games
• Tail-gate parties in the TD Club parking area
• Football Awards Banquet

The players, coaches and Touchdown Club volunteers have continued to work very hard in the off-season and now it's your turn to help. We rely on donations to the club through membership contributions as our primary source of revenue. Please fill out this membership form today and join us in supporting the finest small college football program in the nation. Remember your company's matching gift program is applicable. All donations are used solely to support the football program. As always, we ask former players to respond so that our current Seahawks have the great experience that was afforded you.

Always check the Touchdown Club information table at Wagner Stadium for the latest club activities. My best to all and let the games begin!

Thank you,

Pete Ottaviano
Touchdown Club President

COACH'S CORNER

The Seahawks' football program is a 12-month commitment - a commitment personified by the Touchdown Club, and made possible for our players in great part by the Club's efforts on our behalf. This commitment has propelled us to great heights in the past and will do so again.

During these past few months the Wagner College football program has made strides towards achieving the goal of winning the 2006 NEC championship. This upcoming season welcomes a highly-touted recruiting class, which includes talented young linemen to battle in the trenches as well as young skilled players with game-breaking abilities. We are extremely excited and confident to be returning over 50 % of our starters from the 2005 season. Our coaches and players have been diligently working to revamp our offense, defense, and special teams. We welcome six new coaches to the staff, a group of five new Graduate Assistants and also the hiring of one full time staff member. Due to these new changes we are anxiously waiting to kick off the 2006 season and preserve the tradition of a strong Seahawks team and program. We are proud of our past successes but look for more as we go forward. With the support and hard work of our players, coaches, families and members of the Touchdown Club, we know that we can continue along this successful path.

As always, I look forward to seeing the familiar faces of Touchdown Club members in the stands at home, and particularly on the road, where they guarantee us the home crowd advantage no matter where we are playing.

The Touchdown Club welcomes back old members and looks to welcome new members in its continuing support of the Wagner football program. Wagner depends on supporters like you who care.

We are grateful for your support,

Walt Hameline

TRAVEL ACCOMMODATIONS

The Wagner College Touchdown Club does more than just support the team on Staten Island. The club organizes bus trips to ALL the Seahawks road games this fall and will also help arrange for overnight accommodations if necessary. Wagner Alum John Iasparro is coordinating all travel for the Touchdown Club this season. He can be reached at 718-981-0444. Keep on the look out for more information on road trips with the TD Club throughout the year.

MONDAY NIGHT FILMS
Coach Hameline and his staff would like to invite all Seahawk supporters to view the game film on Monday nights starting at 7pm. The film will be shown in the Hall of Fame room or any other setting in the Spiro Sports Center that will accommodate the viewers. Fans will be able to watch the game film and see what the coaches and players see at their Sunday meetings. This is something Coach Hameline has done in the past and is something he thinks is beneficial to the Seahawk fans. Thanks for supporting the Wagner College football family.
