The Wagner College strength and conditioning program is as important as any other vital function of the athletic department. It is a key component in the development of the student-athlete, focusing on improving athletic performance and physical capabilities. The athletes are able to hone their sport-specific talents while making their bodies less susceptible to injury in the 1,700 plus square foot free weight room and the 3,900 plus square foot nautilus room. The weight room includes state of the art machinery such as power stations, Olympic benches and dumb bells from the York and Cybex companies. There are also weight plates by Irongrip. In the nautilus facility there are a combination of 29 Bodyguard treadmills, Octane and Pre-Cor elliptical machines and True and Precor stationary bikes. Seahawk athletes train in the facility under the guidance of Domenic Reno with assistance from Justin Walker. The pair aids and assists the burgeoning 22 varsity sports sponsored at Wagner College. The Wagner Strength and Conditioning staff employs all functions of the Spiro Sports Center Fitness, Nautilus and Free Weight Rooms when conducting individual and team weight training sessions. Various forms of plylometric techniques are incorporated as well. In the basement of the facility a 1,500 square foot Power Room is known as `Rocky's Gym' and home to all the Seahawk's power lifting equipment and machinery. The weight room is located just steps away from the gym where the strength and conditioning staff also aid athletes during indoor practices and individual workouts incorporating vital forms of conditioning and stretching techniques. |
